The Importance and Necessity of Worship
Worship is a kind of adore or respect for a deity or something which we view as holy. All human beings need to believe. It’s essential like eating or breathing. By our natures, we need to worship. Even people who have succeeded many things in their lives feel the necessity of worship. Because we don’t only need material satisfaction but also spiritual satisfaction. It’s the passion in our veils.
Worshipping doesn’t only mean to believe in a god. It can be any other form of belief or any object. People may worship a king, a hero or a lover, also. People may believe in many gods. For example; in Greek mythology, we see many gods and goddesses like Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo, Ares, Aphrodite, etc. who all have different functions. People feed their soul by worshipping. Even an atheist person, although s/he hasn’t got a god to believe in, in a sense s/he worships himself/ herself.
We are fascinated by the need to believe in a god or to find a form of worship. It’s clear that our need for worship is strong but it can be harmful when experienced with excessiveness. Because people can show some violent acts according their form of worship and forbiddings of the worshipping can lead to violent acts. Because if something is forbidden in that belief, when someone committed a crime, his/her conscience will not be at ease. So s/he will torment himself/herself or do harm to other people or any other creature just to make his/her conscience comforted.
Worshipping has a purpose. It shows us the essentiality of free soul in our lives but we should establish the balance.
