It’s been discussed for centuries whether women and men are equal or not. Men and women are different creatures by their nature. They look from different perspectives, think in different ways, feel different and handles the problems in a different way. But some people take this difference in a wrong way. They try to construct man power over women. Women are oppressed and aren’t given the same rights with men.

These genders also have some social duties. For example, men have to earn money and women have to look after their children and house. Men are considered to be stronger and women are considered to be naive creatures who need to be protected by a male. They are also not given the same opportunities. It’s true that male and female are diffent by nature but this doesn’t mean one of them should have power over the other. Stuart Mill in his essay “The Subjection Of Women” handles this issue. He defends the idea that women and men should have equality. Because it will be good also for the country’s development. People are always prejudiced. They say that men and women can’t do the same work without giving them the chance. Stuart Mill wants women to be given a chance and so it can be seen whether they will succeed or not. There are many fields in which women are more skillful than men. First we should give equal rights and chances and than we should make judgments about their capacities. Even in working life, we see difference in salaries as well as positions between men and women. In the past, even when a woman gave birth to a daughter, it was shame for her. Because she should have given birth to a son.

We should leave our prejudices behind and try to be more just between sexes. Everyone should accept that these two sexes need each other and complement one another. Without one of them, there cannot be the continuation of life. So instead of trying to be powerful, effective over the other sex, we should try to give equalities. It will be more beneficial both for individuals and society. It will destroy the discrimination between sexes which lasted for centuries.
